As anticipation builds for the French Open 2025 semifinal, Novak Djokovic is making it clear — his focus isn’t on how to stop Jannik Sinner, but on how Sinner plans to stop him.
Djokovic secured his place in the final four with a commanding four-set victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev on Wednesday night, marking the Serbian legend’s 51st career Grand Slam semifinal appearance.
At 38 years old, Djokovic remains firmly in contention for what would be a record-breaking 25th major title and a fourth Roland Garros crown.
Awaiting him is world number one Jannik Sinner, who has been in devastating form in Paris. The 23-year-old Italian has not dropped a single set during this year’s tournament and hasn’t lost his serve since the first round, when he faced Arthur Rinderknech.
Sinner is currently on a 19-match Grand Slam winning streak, having recently lifted trophies at both the US Open and Australian Open. Two more wins at Roland Garros would bring him within striking distance of a rare and historic “Sinner Slam.”
Djokovic, who executed a near-flawless strategy against Zverev by forcing him into the net and exposing him with precision passing shots and lobs, knows Sinner won’t be as easily broken.
“Jannik is playing incredible tennis,” Djokovic said. “He’s been consistent and confident, and he’s performing at a very high level in every tournament he’s entered over the last 18 months.”
“But this is what drives me. These big matches in the latter stages of a Grand Slam, especially against the world number one — that’s where I bring my best tennis. At this point in my career, these are the moments that truly motivate me.”
With the semifinal set to deliver a high-octane clash between a rising star and a seasoned legend, fans around the world will be watching closely to see who comes out on top.
